Hello, I'm Elizabeth Potts, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Florida.

I have been working with clients who have struggled with mental health and substance misuse issues in Florida since 2009. Prior to that, I worked in Pennsylvania, in the mental health and substance misuse field for over 30 years. I am also internationally Certified as a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor out of Pennsylvania. I graduated from Marywood University, in Pennsylvania, with a Masters In Social Work (MSW) in 2002. After moving to Florida in 2009, I worked at the Veterans Health Administration as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I served returning veterans from Iraq, Afghanistan and the Middle East, and homeless

veterans. My work has been gratifying and rewarding. I recently retired to spend more time with my family and to work part time delivering virtual therapy.


I employ an individualized approach that integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Brief Solution Therapy, Mindfulness practices, journaling as appropriate, worksheets, and Reality Therapy.  I encourage those with substance misuse to develop a support network. This can be a 12 step and non-12-step program (5 Alternatives to Traditional 12-Step Recovery Programs - Recovery.org) church groups, specialized women's recovery groups, etc. or positive friends and family.


**I will not work with anyone actively engaged in dependent drug use. Virtual therapy is not the proper treatment venue for active addiction. **

Brief Solution Therapy

In my practice, I employ this approach to focus on solutions rather than dwelling on problems. By exploring your strengths and resources, we collaborate to develop practical strategies that can bring about meaningful and lasting change in your life.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a transformative practice that enables individuals to cultivate a deeper awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and the present moment. In my therapeutic approach, I integrate mindfulness techniques to help clients develop greater self-compassion, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being. Together, we explore mindfulness as a powerful tool for managing life's challenges and fostering a more balanced and mindful way of living.


Journaling

Journaling is a therapeutic tool that invites self-reflection and self-expression, allowing individuals to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a safe and structured way. In my practice, I encourage clients to incorporate journaling into their self-care routines as a means of gaining insight, reducing stress, and promoting emotional healing. Reality Therapy

In the journey towards personal growth and emotional well-being, Reality Therapy offers a unique and empowering approach. Rooted in the belief that individuals have the power to make choices that lead to fulfilling lives, Reality Therapy focuses on the present moment and the inherent need for healthy relationships.
